Achieve a Flawless-Looking Smile with Porcelain Veneers
Matthew A. Turner D.D.S., P.C. can design and place high-quality, natural-looking porcelain veneers for residents of Kansas City, MO at our Blue Springs, office to conceal minor chips, cracks, discoloration, and gaps. In only a couple of weeks, you can have a smile that looks brand-new. Porcelain veneers are made from thin shells of medical-grade ceramic and are affixed to the front of the teeth. This simple cosmetic procedure can transform your smile to improve your appearance.
What Is the Purpose of Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers conceal a wide variety of minor cosmetic imperfections. They can be an excellent solution for addressing multiple flaws at once. With custom-made veneers, you can correct:
- Deep discoloration that will not respond to professional teeth whitening
- Minor damage such as chips or cracks and some fractures
- Small gaps between the teeth, or slightly crooked teeth
Although minor, these blemishes can hinder your confidence and cause you to avoid showing your teeth when you smile.
How Are Porcelain Veneers Placed?
The first step before any cosmetic procedure is a consultation with Dr. Turner. He will evaluate your oral health and your treatment goals to ensure you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers. Once you are both in agreement that porcelain veneers are your best option, Dr. Turner can begin prepping your teeth.
In only a couple of weeks, you can have a smile that looks brand-new.
Although veneers are thin, they still add a slight amount of bulk to the teeth. For this reason, Dr. Turner prepares your teeth by removing a minuscule amount of tooth enamel. In most cases, he can remove as little as half a millimeter. After your teeth are prepped, we will take impressions of your teeth. We will send these impressions to a dental lab for the creation of your veneers. We will also include the desired shade, so they can craft veneers that will perfectly match your surrounding teeth.
The veneer creation process can take up to two weeks. Dr. Turner may place temporary veneers to protect your teeth and reduce sensitivity during this time. When your veneers are ready, you will return to our office for your second appointment. Dr. Turner will check to ensure the veneers are the proper shade, size, and shape. Then, he will apply cement to the backside of the veneers and carefully place them onto the fronts of your teeth. He will then use a UV light to harden the cement for a permanent placement.
What to Expect Following Veneer Placement
You can return to your everyday activities immediately after your veneers are in place. While you can eat whatever you like, it is important to note that porcelain veneers are susceptible to chips and cracks, just as natural teeth. You should continue avoiding chewing on ice cubes, pen caps, fingernails, and the like. With proper care, your porcelain veneers can a decade or more. However, they will likely require replacement at some point.
What Are the Benefits of Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers can address a wide range of cosmetic imperfections to whiten, straighten, and create a more beautiful smile. With a flawless smile, you can enjoy enhanced confidence, which can improve other areas of your life. Porcelain veneers can give you a beautiful smile for years to come.
