Is Invisalign® Teen Right For Your Child?

Selecting Invisalign for your teen’s orthodontic treatment can help him or her achieve a straight smile while enjoying the benefit of discreet treatment. Invisalign Teen offers specific advantages for younger patients, such as the aligner replacement program for lost trays, as well as a blue dot that helps parents ensure that aligners are being worn. Dr. Matthew Turner can determine if your teen is a candidate for treatment and help your child through this exciting transformation at his Blue Springs, MO, practice.

Invisalign Teen offers greater benefits for adolescent patients in addition to discreet treatment.

Why Invisalign Teen is a Good Solution for Adolescent Patients

During those early adolescent years, social acceptance is important to your child’s self-esteem and emotional well-being. Because traditional metal braces are conspicuous, it can make navigating the day-to-day life at school difficult. Metal braces can also get in the way of school photos, prom, and playing musical instruments.

Invisalign Teen is designed to fit into your child’s normal routine without disrupting their lifestyle. Aligner trays are virtually invisible and removable, so teens can inconspicuously straighten their smiles while still enjoying all their favorite foods and activities. With metal braces, there is a long list of foods regularly consumed by teenagers—such as popcorn and sticky candy—that must be avoided to prevent damaging the brackets and wires.

Invisalign Teen is also safer for sports. If your child plays contact sports while wearing metal braces, there is a greater risk for cuts and lacerations when impact is made to the mouth.

Invisalign Teen is designed to fit into your child’s normal routine without disrupting their lifestyle.

How Invisalign Teen Differs from Invisalign

Invisalign Teen operates much like traditional Invisalign. Aligner trays will place gradual pressure on teeth to guide them into proper alignment. In order to stay within your treatment timeline, aligners should be worn at least 20 hours a day consecutively for two weeks. Invisalign Teen is specifically designed for your child’s unique needs. Each aligner comes with eruption tabs for easy removability and a blue compliance indicator dot to help your child stay on track. When the blue dot fades to clear (typically after two weeks of wear), this will alert your teenager to switch to the next aligner in the series. We understand mistakes happen and aligners can get damaged or misplaced. In such cases, Invisalign Teen comes with up to six free replacement aligners to replace any aligner that is damaged or lost so your teen can maintain his or her treatment timeline.

Is Your Child a Candidate for Invisalign Teen?

Invisalign Teen is designed to help correct bite disorders and teeth that are gapped, tipped, crooked, or protruding. Whether your child’s teeth are partially or fully erupted, Invisalign Teen will work with their dentition to help correct mild to moderate dental misalignment and jaw disorders. As a trained Invisalign specialist, Dr. Turner will evaluate your teen’s orthodontic concerns to determine eligibility. Even if your child has been rejected in the past as a good candidate, we recommend seeking a second opinion as advancements are regularly made to improve the Invisalign system for patients.
