Veneers

Even the tiniest chip, crack, or stain in your smile can undercut your self-confidence.

Veneers can cover multiple cosmetic blemishes at once, offering a great chance to invest in the appearance and health of your smile.

Here's why patients from all over Kansas City, MO, choose the Blue Springs office of Dr. Matthew A. Turner for veneers...

Benefits of Veneers

Dental veneers are an increasingly popular cosmetic dentistry treatment because they offer many unique benefits, including:

Versatility

Many of our Kansas City patients seek veneers to deliver dramatic cosmetic results. Dental veneers are unique due to their ability to address a wide range of aesthetic issues. While other procedures like teeth whitening and dental bonding can only address specific blemishes, porcelain veneers can completely change the size and shape of your teeth.

Improved Oral Health

One lesser-known benefit of porcelain veneers is their ability to correct mildly crowded or misaligned teeth. For the right patient, Dr. Matthew Turner can use dental veneers to eliminate minor crowding issues. Not only will your teeth look more attractive, but each individual tooth will be easier to clean and maintain.

Elevated Self-Confidence

An attractive smile conveys youth, confidence, and good health. If you are seeking new possibilities in your personal and professional life, porcelain veneers can improve how others perceive you. Many patients who undergo this treatment at our Blue Springs office find that it dramatically boosts their self-esteem.

See How Veneers Work

Veneers are super-thin shells that attach to the surfaces of teeth, masking imperfections. At our Kansas City-area practice, we use veneers made out of porcelain, IPS e.max®, and other durable, natural-looking materials.

Veneers Versus Other Cosmetic Treatments

Although many cosmetic treatments provide similar effects, the patient's needs and goals dictate which one is the right choice. Here are some reasons why our doctor might recommend veneers instead of other options:
Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening can produce impressive results, but this treatment only works on surface-level stains, not deep-set staining of the dentin within the tooth. Veneers offer an instant enhancement of your smile, capable of concealing stains that don't respond to teeth whitening.

Dental Bonding

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding uses composite resin to address many of the same issues as veneers at a lower cost. However, a bonded tooth typically requires re-treatment within  three to 10 years, while most veneers stay strong and beautiful for over a decade. Though many Kansas City patients achieve satisfying results with dental bonding, composite resin does not look as realistic as veneers, which can be made to look indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Dental Crowns

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns can be effective in masking minor flaws and improving the appearance of otherwise healthy teeth, but they can be an excessive solution in some cases. Your dentist must remove a considerable amount of dental tissue to achieve an appropriate shape to accommodate a crown, but placing veneers only requires the removal of a small amount of enamel from the front surface of the tooth.

How Are Porcelain Veneers Placed?

For most Kansas City patients, receiving veneers usually requires two appointments at our office in Blue Springs, MO. During these appointments, here is what you can expect:
By working with our dentist and his team, you will experience the benefits of our advanced dental technology.
By working with our dentist and his team, you will experience the benefits of our advanced dental technology.

Consultation

You will sit down with our dentist and talk to him about your cosmetic concerns. Dr. Turner will ask you about the tooth or teeth that are making you unhappy.

Imaging & Impressions

By working with our dentist and his team, you will experience the benefits of our advanced dental technology. Our office utilizes the iTero Element 2 Intraoral Scanner and 3-D printer technology, so you won’t have to gag on goopy impression materials. Our radiation-free scanning technology produces a perfect digital model of your bite in minutes. We use this model to plan your treatment.

Preparing the Teeth

To prepare a tooth for veneer placement, we must remove a thin layer of enamel. This allows the veneer to lie flush alongside the adjacent teeth. Our cosmetic dentist will apply local anesthesia with our WAND technology, and sedation may also be used to ensure that you are comfortable throughout this procedure. After Dr. Turner removes the enamel, we will use the iTero Element 2 scanner to create a digital model of your altered bite.

Fabricating the Restorations

The information from our scanner is uploaded to the “Cloud,” where it is then transmitted instantly to our dental laboratory. We partner with a local, independent lab so that Dr. Turner can communicate directly with the lab technicians. These highly trained technicians will use the model of your bite to create your custom veneers. This will take between two and three weeks. We may be able to provide a temporary prosthetic to wear while you wait.

Placing the Permanent Veneers

When the dental veneers are ready, you will return to our Blue Springs office so Dr. Turner can attach them. He will make necessary adjustments to ensure that the veneers match the shade of your teeth and fit perfectly. Once you and the doctor are completely satisfied, he will secure the veneers to the treated teeth with strong dental cement. There is no recovery time associated with this treatment.

Our Dentist Can Help You Combat Potential Side Effects

In the days following your treatment, you may experience a few minor and perfectly normal side effects that will subside on their own. For example, you may notice a sensitivity to hot and cold food or drinks. Avoiding these items is one way to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Additionally, because the shells slightly alter the size of your teeth, you may notice that your bite feels a bit “off” for a few days, but don't worry. Your mouth will naturally adjust.

If you have concerns about side effects at any point during the treatment, simply let our dentist know and he will gladly provide advice and tips as needed. By working with our experienced dental team, you greatly lower your risk of side effects following treatment.

How Can I Enjoy My Veneers for 10 Years or Longer?

Your veneers will be fabricated from a durable material like porcelain, but the shells are not indestructible. To keep them looking and feeling great for as long as possible, you should:

Refrain from Opening Items with Your Teeth

Porcelain and other materials used in veneers have a similar density and strength as enamel. In other words, if you wouldn’t bite it with your natural teeth, don’t bite it with your new attachments. You should never use your dental veneers to tear or pry open objects or packages.

Maintain Good Dental Health

The state of your veneers will depend on how healthy the underlying teeth and gums are. We recommend that all of our patients brush at least twice a day and floss regularly. Regular exams and cleanings can allow Dr. Turner to ensure that your veneers remain firmly attached.

Choose the Right Toothbrush and Toothpaste

Your veneers can remain strong and stain-resistant for many years, but using a hard-bristled toothbrush or a toothpaste with abrasives can scuff them and make them look dull. We recommend using a toothbrush with soft bristles and a nonabrasive toothpaste to keep your veneers bright and beautiful. Your Kansas City, MO, dentist can suggest brands that work best for veneers.

How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost?

Remember, porcelain veneers are not a cost. They are an investment in yourself!

At our Kansas City-area practice, a single veneer will usually cost between $1,300 and $1,800. Prices vary based on a few factors, including the material used to make the veneer.

We want every patient to enjoy the benefits of dental veneers, no matter their budget. For this reason, we offer flexible financing through CareCredit®. To get an accurate quote, schedule a consultation at our dental office today.

What Role Do Veneers Play In a Smile Makeover?

Veneers are a part of most smile makeover treatments. For example, combining veneers with teeth whitening is a common means of taking your smile to an exciting new level of brilliance. After your teeth are whitened, the veneers will be matched to the color of surrounding teeth for a natural-looking result.

Here are the ways that two other popular treatments our Kansas City practice provides can complement veneers:

Gum Contouring and Veneers

If you have excessive gum tissue and teeth that could benefit from veneers, you can combine gum contouring with veneers for gorgeous, proportionate results. Sit back and relax with the help of our WAND anesthetic system while Dr. Turner gently reshapes your gumline, or choose deeper sedation if you are feeling anxious about your treatment. After a short healing period, return to our Kansas City-area office so we can securely place your new veneers to complete your bright, balanced smile.

Invisalign® and Veneers

Because veneers are designed to mask only minor misalignment, many patients choose to straighten their smiles with Invisalign clear aligners before treatment with veneers to achieve the most effective end result. Dr. Turner will create a series of customized aligners that will gradually guide your teeth into their proper positions, which primes your smile for the lasting brilliance veneers offer.

We're Ready to Create Your Beautiful Smile A Leading Provider of Smile Makeovers in the Kansas City Area

Many Kansas City patients tell us how glad they are that they invested in veneers as part of their smile makeover. These ultra-thin, ultra-strong shells can work in tandem with other transformative cosmetic treatments to give you the smile you've always envisioned.
